Why Do Most People, Nigerians Fear IELTS Exams?

Okay, let me clarify these myths today.

IELTS myth #1. You need to score 8+ to be considered

First, do you know that you do not need to score 8+ in all the IELTS areas to be qualified for Permanent residency in Canada via the Express Entry, Provincial Nominee, or even as a medical doctor? Yeah, you do not.

IELTS myth #2. It’s too difficult

Because the 2 official languages in Canada are English and French, you need to show forth that you can communicate with the citizens of the country. Unfortunately, the only way is to test or examine you, hence, the need for the IELTS Test.

I mean, won’t it be weird to communicate with your local dialect instead of English or French in Canada, awkward, right?

All in all, read the above 2 points 3-5 times, from there the fear of IELTS will have been gone, forever.

How to Pass IELTS Exam in Nigeria with a High Score Easily

Pass IELTS Exams in Nigeria

1.  Work on your English Language Strength

Score 8 in IELTS Listening, 8 in IELTS Reading, 8 in IELTS Writing, and also 8 in IELTS Speaking, and you’re free to fly to any English-speaking country as a bird. By being free to fly, I mean, your CRS point will be on the advantageous side, because for instance, not all the relocation routes to Canada require such high IELTS scores.

But the big question is, how do you pass IELTS with band 8?

Answer: Start improving your English language strengths, and that can be achieved by simply using your English every day.

You see, I have discovered that we get better (daily and as time goes on) doing the same thing only if you have the INTEREST at heart.

What you want to do is read, speak, listen and write in English as often as you can. Because the more words you are exposed to, the better your vocabulary & English Language Strength will improve.

This may sound weird, but truth is, you can hack the process by listening to English podcasts/podcasters, radio, television, and film. And of course, accents from the Americans, Australians, British, and Canadians will bring in the most desired results.

2. Take Pre-Test

Practice the test using free IELTS test sample questions you can get hold of.

I remember always using past questions to pre-examine myself – to see my preparation strengths. I do think this is what you want to do as well.

And please note, this is not a criterion for judging your 8 Band score attainment, but rather to weigh your area of strengths and weaknesses. For instance, you can score 6, 7, 6, but 4 in Reading. Such a score line signifies a need to read and study more on “READING”.

3.  Familiarize with the Test Format

It is important you get to know the basics of the test to know what to expect on D-day.

As we know, there are two versions of IELTS – IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The Listening and the Speaking components are the same for both tests but the Reading and the Writing components are different.

The IELTS test format is broken down into four categories: speaking, writing, listening, and reading. There are two versions of the exam, tailored for either academic or general training. The total exam time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

And lastly, to boost your confidence, get to know all the Dos and Don’ts for Candidates for proper guidance – a factor that beats wrong info and rumors from hearsays.

With these 3 IELTS preparation steps, you can hack your way to a positive score in the IELTS exam.

The Best Checklist To Improve Your IELTS Score

Here is an overview of the key points you need to take.

  • Record expressions that can be used in a variety of academic contexts.
  • Record phrases (rather than individual words)
  • Use a good monolingual dictionary to check proper word arrangement
  • Avoid spending too much learning highly specialized words.
  • Skim and scan to form a general picture of a text quickly
  • Make sure you know exactly what’s required for each task
  • Check all instructions carefully.
  • Use the work for further clues about the content and organization of the text.
  • Practice timed writing to improve your speed.
  • Never write answers BELOW the minimum length
  • Remember that Task 2 is longer and has more marks, so leave enough time for it.
  • Select the important features and choose figures to support these
  • To practice, look for diagrams, graphs, and charts in the newspaper or on the Internet and analyze them. Notice how diagrams are used on TV programs.

For Fluency:

  • Practice talking for a considerable long time
  • Talk aloud in English to hear yourself pronounce the words
  • Record yourself speaking on different topics as often as you can

For Pronunciation:

  • Listen to spoken English (e.g. on radio/TV/ films) as much as possible
  • Repeat phrases after the speaker in recordings to help you speak in word groups and use stress and intonation appropriately
  • Record and listen to yourself speaking as much as you can
  • Use the preparation time to think about the task content and focus
  • Make sure you know exactly what’s required for each task and check the instructions
  • After checking your answers, listen again, and try to work out the cause of any problem.

How to improve:

  • Remember that you only hear the recording once. Don’t pause the CD when you’re practicing
  • Finally, listen once more to the tape script and highlight useful expressions

Question: What is the Basic IELTS Test Format?

Answer: The IELTS test format is broken down into four categories: Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading. There are two versions of the exam, tailored for either academic or general training. The total exam time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Listening and speaking categories are the same for both exam types; however, the subject matter for reading and writing varies depending on if you are interested in academic or general testing.

The reading, writing, and listening categories of the exam are all written on the same day with no intermediate breaks. The speaking component can be completed within a week before or after the other tests, according to your testing organization.

Question: What are the Advantages + Core Benefits of Writing the IELTS Exam?

Answer: The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is popular worldwide with speakers of English as a second language as proof of their proficiency.

Whether you are applying for study, work, or a visa, the IELTS examination is the same in terms of content, examiners, format, level of difficulty, and scoring.

If your test results are not satisfactory, there is no limit on when and how often you can retake it, but it is advisable to take some time and study more before your next attempt.

Question: What are the various IELTS Examination Format and Course Contents?

Answer: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training tests feature differences in two out of the four sections of the test: Reading and Writing. The Listening and Speaking parts are the same for both versions.

The Reading section of your IELTS Academic exam requires you to read three longer and more complex texts than the four or five shorter and simpler texts in the General Training test.

In the Writing section of the Academic test, you will be given a chart or diagram that you must describe in 150 words.

In the General Training test, you will be given a description of a real-life situation which you must then describe in a written letter.

IELTS examiners will be looking at three important aspects: structure (the essay must contain at least three paragraphs), vocabulary (it is important to use several ’higher register’ words, as opposed to simple ones used in conversation), and fluency (commonly used phrases).

The Speaking section has three parts and usually lasts for around 11 to 14 minutes. Each candidate has a one-to-one conversation with a single examiner and the conversation is recorded.

The Listening section is divided into four parts. You will listen to audio samples of people talking about different topics. You will then be required to answer questions based on what you have heard.

The same four criteria are used to grade both versions of the exam (task response, cohesion, and coherence, vocabulary, and grammar), ensuring that your English language skills are assessed as accurately as possible.

Prayer To Pass IELTS Exam

Lord, my God you are my refuge and my strength. You are my ever-present help in times of trouble.

When it seems like my world is crumbling around me and I am thrown around by the storms of my life, take away my fear. When I am weak, you are my strength. When I am vulnerable, you are my refuge. When I cry for help, you will answer.

Lord, you said is there a man that lacks wisdom, let him ask God that giveth to all men liberally, I, therefore, ask for wisdom and the spirit of remembrance in the fourth coming IELTS exam.

Having done my part to read and cover all areas I need to; I ask that I not only pass the IELTS exam but to do it in one sitting.

Remind me Lord that you are always with me, you will never leave or forsake me. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Experiences of the IELTS Exams by Nigerians

Picked up my IELTS result yesterday. Not really impressed with it, Listening 8.0, Reading 5.0, and Writing 7.0 & Speaking 7.5. Total Band 7.0 Though I’m good 2 go for study in Finland but I still can’t comprehend how I managed 2 make a low band in reading considering d fact that I never scored anything below 7 in all my practice tests. Advice 2 those intending 2 write IELTS, it’s easy, just be calm and focused. Above express yourself freely

Cjeriia

It’s practice, practice and more practice. By practice, I mean actually writing some essays and timing yourself and having someone proofread for u. If there’s nobody, u will sure feel when your writing has improved. Another means of preparing is reading a variety of sample answers to the same question so it can give you an idea of how to tackle different questions, what is expected of you and also you will be able to connect those different methods of writing to produce a strong/quality essay.
E.g. my paragraphs were: intro, causes, cons, pros, solutions, and conclusion. Guess what, I had a maximum of 2 related but well-elaborated points in each paragraph. Mind you I didn’t finish writing my conclusion. Using a variety of Vocabulary is also of the essence. Trust me, I used a few “terms/big words” in the right context though
